German distilleries

Hi Alex,

 

I don’t know that much about it. I will try to get some additional
information, fafaik the distillery doesn’t have a website. This seems to
match the timewarp feeling that I got when I visited the place. At the time
I didn’t know about Otto’s Whisky and only went there to try his beer on
site. Quite a pitty actually.

 

My wife works in a beer tasting house/ cafe in Amsterdam and they sometimes
get Otto’s beer in a keg on the bar (literally). I will ask the man who has
the noble job of visiting all the lovely breweries in the Bamberg/ Frankonia
area (to buy beers for the tasting house) to get some more info on the
whisky production. When I get more information, I will certainly post it on
the malts-list.

Thanks Herman! That’s a new one to me (James, clear now there are things I
don’t know, right?). Do you know whether it’s a malt or grain whisky they’re

Imho their whisky tastes pretty nasty, but the beer that they produce (their
primary product for centuries) is an honest to goodness brew, and it’s worth
visiting if you like a small village farm brewery.

Even if, I’ve never tasted the Blaue Maus, I heard from a distiller in
Amsterdam that it’s quite good so it might be interesting to try it out.

German distilleries (both whisky and other spirits) worth touring?
