To me it sounds pretty desperate. Guess they really want to have something on the market which links the words 'Shetland' and 'whisky' on a single label. One winter of extra maturation on Shetland is not going to give the whisky a special Shetland taste, so it's purely cosmetic to me. 

But to be honest, if this move gives them a bit of exta cash flow that enables the real distillery to be built on Unst and ultimately gives us real Shetland whisky in x years time, well, I think I can forgive them in that case ... Still, won't be rushing off to get a bottle of this.

Ok they are putting this in new french oak casks as well but "wintering" it in Shetland is that really going to cause much difference.  What will be next - you have to think that they will spend about 36 hourss on a boat going back and forth to shetland so will it also be a P&O finish?
