Correct.  While most whisky is filtered after it leaves the cask,  we don't 
want bits of charcoal in our drams, Tennessee whiskey/whisky (the  two 
distilleries spell the word differently) goes through 10 feet of  charcoal 
BEFORE going into the cask.



And if it is Gentleman Jack, it is charcoal "mellowed"  in those  sugar maple 
vats before and after it is aged in oak.
