Custom declaration

Hi all
In Australia single bottles seem to get through OK (i.e. don't get held up in customs pending payment of duty and tax). I have had problems with multiple bottle packages with high value.

I suspect that the authorities here only really look at two things - the volume and the stated value.

To their defence – this was many years ago and they were trying to be helpful. (The parcel was
labelled with a private sender.) They were just being too “creative”.

It is still, as far as I know, permitted to receive a bottle of whisky every once in while, as a
gift. But it has to be declared what’s inside.

However, the Customs turns a blind eye towards parcels with one or two (expensive) bottles of
whisky. They focus on cheap Internet liquor that comes in bulk. This might of course change.
