Help needed - Laphroaig

Peter,

For me it is just a 'quick fix' like Aussie Cabs and NZ chardons matured in
stainless steel containers matured with a little help of submerged sacks of
oak chips.

Nothing wrong with that if you favor a faster cash flow for the producer
than stay with and be true to a classic house style.

The rational behind this move is that smaller casks 'may' contribute to a
speedier 'maturation', but always at the cost of quality and elegance.

A similar philosophy is adopted by a Swedish producer, the Mackmyra.

Best

Ulf

Subject: Help needed - Laphroaig

When family members come to NZ via Auckland airport I usually get them to
bring me in a couple of 1L malts from the inbound Duty Free stores. Usually
I ask for Ardbeg 10y and Laphroaig cask strength as being the best buys
there. When I saw my wife off on a trip last Friday I noted there was a
Laphroaig Quarter Cask bottling I haven't seen before. I like the Laphroaig
Cask Strength (which I notice has dropped from ~57.3% to ~55.5%) and the
Quarter Cask is only 48% (though a few$ cheaper), but I'm tempted.

Can anyone offer a flavour comparison between these two?

Peter Wood
