Whisky Trivia (off-topic)

Ok you lot, for 5 points, no conferring:
In the film "Enigma" the main protaginist Tom Jericho (as a representation of Alan Turing) is brought back to Bletchley Park to help crack the German Navy new 4-wheel based code. A prize is offered of a bottle of whisky to the first person to provide a working "crib". Tom wins it, and it turns out to be only a half bottle.
It looks really dark colored.
What whisky is it?
(This posting is off-topic because its a blend).
And for a bonus point, was that blended whisky really that dark in those days?
