Are we finished with "finishes"?

I generally poo-poo finishes as a concept overall but when a nice whisky in
my glass happens to be finished I admit that I like it and even buy a
bottle. My most recent purchase is a Murray McDavid Mission Rosebank 1989
17yo from Bourbon, Marsanne and Roussanne casks, enhanced in Guigal
Hermitage Blanc casks. Is the gentle underlying Rosebank spirit mostly
covered up by the wine? Yes, but it's still very good and there is still
some nice lowland character within it.
I can say I don't like the idea but when finishing works and the resulting
whisky tastes great I really shouldn't argue with it.
