Alex shrieks:
> Hey, let's talk whisky (;o)!

Yeah!
I have hit a streak of non-stop winners, but am a bit shy of yelling about them, lest I be categorized as a shill for Adelphi. But the bald truth of it is that over the last 6 months they have put out an unbroken set of bottlings that has knocked me off my feet. One is a Glenf*****s, one of those few casks that dug under the barbed wire with Steve McQueen and made a run for the hills. It matches any of the great GF 30 yo's that its been my good fortune to shlurp. Then theres the Islay one, that is Laga****n. Smooth and not at all over-sherried, reminiscent of a Port Ellen. And a killer 30 yo Macallan, that I have dubbed the "Macallan Dubh". Completly over the top with sherry and liquorice. (I've had 4 of these). Macallan, just as she was and just like it should be. You'll be reading about it from Malt Maniacs.

A Glenlossie 40 yo, a Glenlivet not-at-all sherried and, now they are doing half-bottles, which enabled me to go for the horrendously overpriced Springbank. After years of ho-hum Springers, this was, I think, back to what you have all been talking about. And an Invergordon 41 yo grain. Well I sure couldn't tll it was grain, just great whisky.

Finally, Alex Bruce and the Adelphi team go that extra mile helping out with VAT problems. I will be discreet on-line, but will provide info off-list if required.

Some bloke called Charles McLean (who he? !!!!!) writes the Adelphi tasting notes with a florid hand. A somewhat over-active imagination, and obviously reading and being terminologically influenced too much by Charles Dickens and the Bronte sisters!

During the recent unpleasantness in our neck of the woods, I had this vision of a katyusha making a direct hit on the whisky cupboard, and all those unopened bottles blown to bits. So one by one I opened them all, and with family and friends and neighbors passed each evening thus. Disgraceful behaviour, I know, but there it is. No redeeming social character at all, but great fun.

An Old Pulteney heavily sherried by G&M, as advertised in WM, just didn't keep up with this level of competition. On dilution from cask strength to 45% it just died in the glass.
