Hello Frank!
Several years ago I offered you to run the list beside my own if needed. But
only a year later my own list in German language really took off and 3
million emails per year is not very attractive to any provider.
Suffering from these millions of emails I decided 2004 to switch over to an
Internet based forum. The transition was not that easy because the list
members had to adapt to the new system and the way you have to deal with the
content. Today most of us here on the list have a better knowledge of these
forums.
But in the end my own list is running better than ever and 800'000 to 1
million monthly page views in our forum in German language shows us, that we
did it the right way.
I want to say with my example, that we should not only seek a new server for
this list but also change to a forum instead of just another mailing list.
If you think over this question for a while you end up with the question, if
we should really look for another home (e.g. Yahoo forum or myspace.com) or
if we should just join an existing specialized forum in English language.
I bet, there are a lot of us already visiting several of these forums.
I would suggest, that we raise a poll for several existing malt whisky
forums. We only have to answer the question, if this new forum will
incorporate the thousands of messages we sent in the past. By the way, it
took me quite a while to enter all the old emails in the new forum.
If we decide to look out for this new forum we should also look after a
forum which shows stability over several years. This would be a garant, that
we will not loose our postings in the future.
Kind regards,
Horst
