Single malt mailing lists

Hi all,

I have been told that there is a new mailing list concerning single
malts run by The Whisky Store (Luening).
(see http://www.TheWhiskyStore.de/liste/)

However access to this list is restricted to people who are willing to pay
an annual fee for it.
"Running such a mailing list causes expenses and we have to get that money
back."
(roughly translated)

Now that seems to be quite a clever idea. Let people pay for discussion.
Is that a new idea or does anybody of you know similar single malt mailing
lists of people who participate in free mailing lists but ask for money
for their own list?
