I bought that bottle at the Wine & Liquor Depot (Van Nuys, CA) around May 1999 or so. I had previously purchased another bottling from that particular bottling "season" (back then, Cadenheads would bottle 8 or 10 whiskies during a particular season "summer 1998", etc. and drop a flyer with tasting notes in the boxes). A sherry casked Talisker intrigued me at the time, for all that was available in the USA was the standard 10 year old. The tasting notes sounded good. I wasn't prepared for the vile liquid in that bottle! I poured off a wee sample of that Cadenheads Talisker for reference and put a skull and crossbones on the label for effect. The nose was pure nail polish remover. Last I heard, Mike Wade had that bottle. He is/was the 4th owner I think. Loch Dhu is a treasure compared to that one!

To be fair, I've also purchased some other Cadenhead's bottlings from that time frame that were completely over the top. Fantastic cask strength bottlings retailing under $100.

Slainte!
