Hi Ken.
The Glenhaven Fettercairn reminds me of orange peel/orange marmalade, and I was quite fond of it. I remeber the 'Farclas being quite good as well....
Slainte!
Dave

Subject: [MM-MALTS-L] bargains from the past??
Greetings all.
I stopped into a liquor store today that I hadn't been in for a year or so. Last time I had been there, they carried over 200 single malts, including a very nice selection of independent, single cask stuff. Got there today to find they've had a change of ownership and the new owners only want to sell what they can move at a higher volume, so they've dropped the SM inventory down to about 80 at this point. Bad news that, but with a potential silver lining in that cloud. They have a few rare bottlings from days past that they apparently don't want cluttering their shelves that seem to be decent values. I don't have personal experience with any of these, but was wondering if anyone has any recollections or comments on the following. I'm including their prices (US $$), and any opinions as to whether they are, in fact, a good value would be greatly appreciated. Here goes:
Adelphi Aberfeldy, 15 y.o., cask # 343, 59.6% - $46
Adelphi Benriach, 11 y.o., cask # 2838, 63.5% - $50
Adelphi Clynelish, 10 y.o., cask # 6079, 61.5%, $46
Glenhaven Glenfarclas, 17 y.o., Oct. ’77-Oct.’94, 53.2% - $88
Glenhaven Dufftown-Glenlivet, 11 y.o., Nov. ’82-Oct. ’94, 60% - $77
Glenhaven Fettercairn, 10 y.o., Nov. ’85-June ’96, 63% - $77
They also had The Wild Scotsman 15 y.o. vatted malt at $40, and although I think I tried it at a past WhiskyFest I have no recollection of the experience (got there after visiting too many other tables), so impressions of it are welcome as well. I would like to support my undoubtedly distant clansman John McDougall, particularly if he leaves me in his single malt will (you out there, John??).
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Ken MacDougall
