In the book Peat, Smoke and Spirit about Islay distilleries Ian Henderson is quoted as saying that the Laphroaig malted barley is 43 ppm and the purchased Port Ellen Maltings barley is 40ppm.
There has been great discussion about the changes in the ppm over the course of the last decade and it is generally agreed that it has declined to this current level.

I do have an argument here about the peat level. Someone who should know said that what they buy is at 55ppm and the one they make themselfes is at 100ppm.
When Bruichladdich decided to make Octomore because 'the world needed to see the maximum phenolic content that could be achieved' they extended their regular kilning time five-fold and still only achieved 80.5 ppm! They also commented that 'Controlling the malting process at this end of the scale is a very imprecise procedure'. They then achieved 167 ppm at the second attempt a couple of years later, but this shows that Laphroaig aren't going to be getting anything like 100 ppm on a regular basis.
