[MM-MALTS-L] Wine in Tuscany - Off-Topic request for info

Greetings all, and a big shout out to Ron, who used to post from Italy.
Or to anybody who is in the know.

After years of trying to get the missus and me together for a holiday, we have finally managed to get a straight week together. We are flying to Rome on October 26, with the target 1 week in Tuscany.

I hope to have 7 days of solid pizza, pasta, parmegiano and most importantly, plonko. Lots of plonko. I just love Italian wine. So, not a whisky trip, this one. The wife will drive. I'll drink, quaff, guzzle, slurp and generally make an embarrassing exhibition of myself.
As the list is a little quiet at the moment, I hope you won't mind that this is so off-topic.

I would appreciate advice on cheapo Bed and Breakfasts. Somewhere driveably near Florence. Also fooderies and the wine-tasting scene.
