Hi all
I've just tried the Gordon & MacPhail Longmorn 12 which was bottled back in
the last quarter of 2008. I tried it in roughly comparable company - Oban
14, Old Pulteney 12 and Aberlour 10 and it was easily the best of the four.
The Longmorn 12 (G&M, 40%) has a great nose with a brilliantly integrated
mix of both bourbon and sherry wood with the bourbon ruling in the end;
brioche, vanilla, citrus & liquorice toffee with stewed apricots. The
palate is slightly sweet, fruity then silky and smooth with some more subtle
stone fruit and a wee hint of smoke. The finish is sweet and silky and a
little short, with some drying wood but without any bitterness. It's a
pretty good package and both more sophisticated and complex than the OB.
Score 82
