As I remember it from the time, the story was that Renee 'Miss Mercy'
Chignall knocked off for a mid-morning coffee and left poor Peter hanging
around - quite literally. She and partner were tried for murder but never
convicted. These days with tighter Occupational Health & Safety laws they'd
have nailed her for allowing a preventable industrial accident to happen.

I wonder if PP-W liked a dram? I'm sure he'd have loved Loch Dhu had it
been around in his days - you'd need to be into pain and suffering to get
that stuff down.
